Connecting your point-of-sale software to delivery platforms: a practical guide

When an order arrives on Uber Eats, it must land in your console to be processed and accounted for. Without a connection between the two systems, it’s manual input every time – a source of errors, wasted time, and accounting inconsistencies. Here’s how to solve this problem.

The problem of manual data entry

Without integration, the flow looks like this: order accepted on the Uber Eats tablet → manual re-entry in the cash register → transmission to the kitchen. This process has several flaws:

Time wasted: when rushing, re-entering each order takes 1 to 2 minutes per transaction. On 30 delivery orders per evening, this is 30 to 60 minutes of unproductive work.

Risk of error: re-entry introduces errors on articles, quantities, options. These errors generate claims and refunds.

Incomplete data: if delivery orders do not go through the checkout, they do not appear in your sales reports. Your accounting is incomplete.

Double stock: if your cash register manages inventory, delivery outs are not reflected in it – your inventory is inaccurate.

Available integration options

Direct integration platform ↔ POS

Certain platforms offer native integrations with a few POS systems. Uber Eats, for example, has official partnerships with some cash register publishers.

Advantages: apparent simplicity, a single connection to configure.

Limitations: these integrations are often partial (not all features), limited to a few POS and a few platforms. If you are on three platforms with a POS that is not on their partner list, you are blocked.

Via an aggregator of commands (recommended)

An aggregator like Pepprio connects to all your platforms on one side and your POS on the other. Orders enter the aggregator, which then transmits them to your POS in the correct format.

Advantages:

  • A single integration on the POS side (the aggregator)
  • Coverage of all platforms, regardless of your POS
  • Centralized order management in the aggregator interface
  • Compatibility maintained automatically when APIs change

This is the most robust and maintainable architecture for the long term.

Specialized middleware

There exist solutions purely dedicated to the connection between platforms and cash registers, without order management interfaces. These tools work "silently" and automatically transmit orders.

Advantages: transparent, little interface to learn. Limitations: no unified management interface, less added value than the full aggregator.

Compatible with Pepprio cash registers:

  • Caisse enregistreuse Square
  • Caisse enregistreuse Lightspeed
  • Caisse enregistreuse Revel Cloud
  • Caisse enregistreuse Vend
  • Caisse enregistreuse Micros
  • Caisse enregistreuse Shopify POS
  • Caisse enregistreuse Clover
  • Caisse enregistreuse Pax A80
  • Caisse enregistreuse Epson TM-D2
  • Caisse enregistreuse POSitouch

Note: The compatibility of Pepprio with specific POS systems may vary. Please contact Pepprio support for the most up-to-date information.

Pepprio offers official and maintained integrations with the main French market point-of-sale software:

  • Zelty — direct injection, bidirectional synchronization
  • InnovOrder — native integration for fast food
  • Lightspeed Restaurant — complete API connection
  • Cashpad — integration for franchises and QSR
  • Popina — real-time synchronization
  • L'addition — compatible with delivery modules
  • SambaPOS — integration for advanced configurations

This list is regularly updated. Check the compatibility of your POS on our integrations page.

How does injection work in the cash register?

When Pepprio injects a command into your POS:

The order is standardized (translation of articles according to your cash register nomenclature) It is created automatically in your cash register with all the details (items, options, quantities) It is sent to the kitchen via your KDS or kitchen printer It appears in your cash register reporting as a normal order

The original platform (Uber Eats, Deliveroo…) is tracked for your performance reports.

The question of nomenclature

The main challenge of a POS (point of sale) ↔ delivery integration is the correspondence between the names of your dishes on the platforms and in your POS. A "Burger Classic" on Uber Eats should correspond to the item "Burger Classic" in Zelty — and if the names don’t match, the injection fails.

Pepprio has a mapping tool that allows you to manually match articles. Once the mapping is complete, it is saved and applied automatically to each order.

Advice: Standardize your product names between the point of sale and platforms from the outset – you’ll save yourself a lot of mapping work.

The impact on accounting

The rise of blockchain technology is poised to fundamentally reshape the accounting landscape. Currently, accounting relies heavily on centralized databases and manual processes, which can be prone to errors, inefficiencies, and a lack of transparency. Blockchain, on the other hand, offers a decentralized, immutable ledger – a shared record of transactions that is virtually tamper-proof.

Here’s a breakdown of the key impacts:

  • Increased Transparency: Blockchain’s distributed nature allows for greater visibility into financial transactions, reducing the potential for fraud and enhancing trust.
  • Automation: Smart contracts, self-executing agreements coded on the blockchain, can automate many accounting tasks, such as reconciliation and invoice processing.
  • Reduced Costs: By streamlining processes and eliminating intermediaries, blockchain can significantly lower accounting costs.
  • Enhanced Auditability: The immutable record provided by blockchain makes audits easier and more efficient.

However, challenges remain. Regulatory frameworks are still evolving, and widespread adoption requires standardization and interoperability between different blockchain platforms. Despite these hurdles, the potential benefits of blockchain for accounting are undeniable, promising a future of more secure, efficient, and transparent financial systems.

With full integration, all your orders (in-store, takeout, delivery) go through your POS system. Your accountant has a consolidated view of your business. Z-tickets from the POS include delivery orders. VAT is correctly calculated.

Without this integration, you must manually reconcile platform reports with those of your cash register—a tedious and error-prone process.

Steps for setup

  1. Download the application.
  2. Install the application.
  3. Create an account.
  4. Configure the application settings.
  5. Import your data.
  6. Test the application.

Verify compatibility between your POS and Pepprio Create your Pepprio account and connect your platforms Configure item mapping (POS ↔ platforms) Test in simulation mode: place a test order on each platform and verify that it appears correctly in your POS Deploy to production and disable manual entry

The entire process typically takes 2 to 4 hours depending on the complexity of your menu and the number of platforms.

Integration between POS and delivery platforms is no longer optional once your order volume becomes significant. The time, precision, and data quality gains largely justify the cost.

The most effective approach is to go through an aggregator like Pepprio: a connection to maintain on the cashier side, a central interface for managing all your orders, and guaranteed compatibility regardless of the evolution of the platforms' APIs.
